El Segundo, Calif. - February 17, 2004 In a display of awesome riding, American skater Ronnie Creager walked away with a win and US$20000 in Saturday¹s Globe World Cup skateboarding final at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
Ronnie displayed a mix of smooth street skills and wild ride rail riding that had the fans leaping out of their seats.
³I tried to relax and let the run flow,² Ronnie said after receiving the winner¹s check. ³I really tried to slow it down, land my tricks and just have fun.
³Globe World Cup is the gnarliest competition with the greatest skaters and there is no way I¹ll miss it next year. I¹m just stoked.²
Canadian Rick McCrank finished strongly in second place, the third year in a row he has finished in the top three. Third place went to another American, Tony Trujillo who set the course on fire.
Event Director for the Globe World Cup, Steve Douglas said that Melbournians were treated to a display of quality riding never seen before in Australia.
³The best riders, a great venue and wild crowds put it all together and you get a sell out and a day no-one will forget,² Steve said.
